Homesteading is becoming a resident of the state of MS. You need an address and a drivers license. Then you pay state taxes in MS like getting a car tag. Welcome to the great state of Mississippi.
Now, since you are homesteading. You are entitled to an approximately 40% break on your primary residence.
Homestead Exemptions may be filed with the Tax Assessor between January 1st and April 1st of each year.
To Apply you will need the following:
- Recorded Deed or other document proving your ownership
- Social Security numbers of all joint owners
- License tag numbers of all vehicles
- Applicant & joint owner’s date of birth
